Godzilla 70th Anniversary

Celebrate 70 years of the King of the Monsters with a special screening of the film that started it all! Presented with community partner Tulsa Global Alliance and special guest Bill Tsutsui, PhD. Bill is the author of “Godzilla on My Mind: Fifty Years of the King of Monsters” as well as numerous books and essays on modern Japanese history. Bill will introduce the screening and lead an informal discussion afterwards, providing historical context to the Godzilla franchise and exploring the impact of the monster in Japan and around the world.

Plus, come early to enjoy complimentary light appetizers from JINYA Ramen Bar in the lobby before the film! Snack on those while you learn more about Tulsa Global Alliance, then get some popcorn before the main feature.

About the film: “Godzilla” (a.k.a. “Gojira”) is the roaring granddaddy of all monster movies. It’s also a remarkably humane and melancholy drama, made in Japan at a time when the country was reeling from nuclear attack and H-bomb testing in the Pacific. Its rampaging radioactive beast, the poignant embodiment of an entire population’s fears, became a beloved international icon of destruction, spawning almost thirty sequels.
