Join us for a one-day-only free screening of "Black Barbie: A Documentary," followed by a post-film Q&A with filmmaker Lagueria Davis. This special event is sponsored by the Tulsa Artist Fellowship, Netflix, and the Center for Queer Prairie Studies.

Following the screening, representatives from Black Queer Tulsa, the Center for Queer Prairie Studies, and Tulsa Artist Fellowship will lead a conversation with Lagueria Davis, offering insights into the film and its cultural impact.

About the Film:
Love her or hate her, almost everyone has a Barbie story. And if they don’t, there’s a story behind why they don’t. In Black Barbie: A Documentary, director Lagueria Davis explores the history and significance of the first Black Barbie, inspired by her own 83-year-old aunt, Beulah Mae Mitchell. A simple question—"Why not make a Barbie that looks like me?"—set the stage for an important cultural shift in representation.

Barbie's Birthday Weekend Celebration
This screening is part of Barbie’s Birthday Weekend at Circle Cinema! In collaboration with the Vintage Barbie Museum and Studio 66, enjoy a special lobby display featuring iconic dolls, outfits, and accessories spanning Barbie’s evolution from 1959 to today. The celebration concludes on Sunday, March 9, with special screenings of Barbie in honor of her 66th birthday.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to engage with the filmmaker, explore Barbie’s cultural impact, and celebrate a timeless icon!
