Born in Boise City, Oklahoma, Vera Miles rose to fame in the 1950s with standout roles in films by Alfred Hitchcock and John Ford, including "The Searchers," "Psycho," and "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance." A former Miss Kansas, Miles brought her striking presence and talent to dozens of film and TV roles over a four-decade career.

Vera plays Lila Crane, investigating the disappearance of her sister Marion Crane Janet Leigh). Marion was on the lam after stealing $40,000 from her employer, and while traveling on the back roads to avoid the police, she stops for the night at the ramshackle Bates Motel. There she meets the polite but highly strung proprietor Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), a young man with an interest in taxidermy and a difficult relationship with his mother.
